The Power of Micronations:
Many people may think that Micronations are silly or too small to have an impact on what’s going on around them. Yet these mini nations have a lot more power than you’d think at first glance.
Citizens join a Micronation because they believe in the Values. They believe in what they’re trying to accomplish on the long term. That’s the bottom line.
No one joins a Micronation because they were born there or because it was forced on them by the “system”. No, rather it’s the other way around. They have to go out of their way to join a Micronation. Sometimes it’s even hard to *find* it in the first place, so something very powerful must attract a person to a Micronation.
Most people do not join because of immediate benefits. Let’s face it, unless your nation is ran by a Billionaire you’re not going to get much out of it resource wise any time soon. Even then your benefits of joining a new state is certainly not going to be anything beyond the stuff any new start up or community group can provide.
Here’s looking at you Asgardia; may you continue to prosper in the future! Truth is that most Micronations can neither levy taxes nor pay even their top Administrators a salary. Asgardia will probably be able to do one of them before the rest of us can think about it; I believe they pay their top administrators a salary. The other not so much, they can’t in any way past voluntary contribution levy taxes on anyone.
Still so much gets done in any Micronation due to Citizen’s loyalty. Think about this for a moment? Almost everything that gets done in most Micronations is because the Citizens and Leaders care enough about it to do it for very little in return. Most Micronations don’t have anyone backing them with deep pockets and lots of resources, yet they still get so much done!
That’s power. People Power and Decentralization.
Not where people have the resources to convince their citizenry to be active, but where they’re active even when there is not much they can get out of it in return. Where even for several years the leaders aren’t getting paid to do it. Where they do almost everything with relatively little, where they grow a nation out of nothing.
I have yet to see *any* established state or nation in the world where someone says, oh yeah, let me do this thing because I believe in the state and leadership enough to do so. Nah, you don’t need to pay me, you don’t need to charge me taxes, here is 100$ and a few hundred hours of my time and unique skills cause you’re so awesome! Hey let me join your military, I’ll train cause it helps you not because I want a paycheck out of it. Never did I ever see politicians run for office and do their official duties without getting fame or fortune out of it. And I never saw any state or nation that tried to do any of these things from nothing….
That’s power.
Real Power.
And that’s the power only a Micronation can hold! Now imagine if that sort of power was wielded to make positive changes in your community, your country and yes even the world. The more a Micronation can do these things, make something out of nothing with little – the more impact they can have in the future.
